The Autism Community is 12-17 Million People.
For every child with autism, it is estimated that 40 individuals are touched. That means 12-17 million people comprise the autism community, defined as:
- Those that have children with autism
- Children and adults with the condition
- Those that are influenced by that child such as grandparents, siblings, other relatives, teachers, classmates, doctors, clergy, care providers, community service professionals like policemen and firemen, neighbors, the news media and product and services providers wanting to service this community.

Our First Community - Autism Hangout.
There is no shortage of data or press about autism. As good neighbor (and Community Hangouts support) Easter Seals notes, it is the epidemic of the century. But up to now, the “depth and breadth” of information has only been two-dimensional. Just like 1,000 points of light, it may be out there, but it’s tough to see as it spreads across 600,000 Google hits. It’s difficult to navigate. You must go a site at a time. There is no one source of compiled knowledge.
There is no “timeliness” or “relevance” in bringing news or helpful information on daily living to those that need it most.
And there has also been no one place for the autism community to gather and discuss the condition… as well as how it affects daily life.
Now there is. Autism Hangout.
